Been thinking about gameplay a lot, so here is a rough idea for an inventory system that
I threw together just now. Dark grey represents
item slots, blue represents upgradable body parts, and yellow represents
costume. Equipping costumes enable the character to carry more due to the benefits of pockets. We could
also make one of the larger items a bag to carry smaller items (although by
doing so you lose a large item slot). I have a feeling it might need more item slots, but let me know what you think! Too restrictive? Is the upgradable body parts idea worth perusing?
Hopefully I’ll have something worth posting in regards to programming soon (and by soon I mean "tomorrow"). I’m currently working on the visualisation and input sections of the game, which is getting there.
THIS IS COOL.
ReplyDeleteI like upgradeable body parts, but only if they are linear.
Like, in Deus Ex, you can choose who you want to be, which is rad, but too much of a nightmare for us.
As long as it's something like, "I need to see what is going on in that apartment- I found a flyer for X-RAY EYEBALLS earlier, maybe I can get that upgrade!" then limbs won't be any more of a problem than picking up a key or a sandwich or something.
A costume system would be really fun - like disguises could play a part. If our android is a blank slate, we could do a lot with that.
Or maybe we could just let people dress their android up in dumb costumes, lord knows I won't get tired of drawing them.
